We are flying again, folks. Bandai Namco and their developer Bandai Namco Aces have officially announced Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, the next high-flying installment in the acclaimed aerial combat series. The game is slated to launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam). Developed by the veteran team PROJECT ACES, this sequel promises to deliver the franchise’s signature blend of high-octane action and deep military plot.

Ace Combat 8 invites players to step into the cockpit and take flight as an elite ace pilot, entering intense dogfights, eliminating threats, and rising through gripping missions to earn their wings. The core aerial combat experience is described as fast-paced, arcade-style gameplay where players deploy powerful weapons to dominate the battlefield. Visually, the Campaign Mode will showcase stunning visuals, featuring dynamic, multi-layered cloudscapes that capture the majesty of “Living Skies,” adding a new layer of immersion to aerial warfare.

Beyond the chaos in the air, Wings of Theve grounds its story with breathtaking first-person scenes and cinematics that reveal the pilot’s personal journey. Players will experience the pressure of command, the weight of critical decisions, and the powerful bonds forged in battle. Between missions, pilots will bond with their squad members, rise to meet adversity, and prove themselves as true aces.

The narrative begins as the player, a fighter pilot, is adrift at sea in a rescue boat before being pulled aboard the outdated aircraft carrier, the Endurance. The pilot’s homeland navy is shattered, and the aging vessel, crowded with refugees, has retreated far from the front lines. The setting is July 2029, a dark time following the lightning invasion of the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) by the Republic of Sotoa, leaving most of the nation occupied and the military scattered. Onboard the Endurance, the player is given a single, crucial name: “Wings of Theve.” This name represents a legendary ace, a symbol of hope tied to Theve, the FCU capital. However, the legend itself was a lie—a story created purely to keep morale alive. Now, the protagonist must carry that name, take to the skies again, and, alongside three new comrades, fight to reclaim their lost homeland. Fans can watch the announcement trailer below.
