After the huge critical and commercial success of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, Capcom has confirmed that there will be more remakes coming for the Resident Evil series in the future. However, they are not yet ready to announce which game will receive the remake treatment next.
At the PlayStation Partner Award event in Japan, Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of Resident Evil 4 Remake, confirmed today that, following the success of these remakes, Capcom is indeed planning to create more of them.
“We’ve released three remakes so far, all of which have been received very well. Allowing a modern audience to play these games is something I am happy to do as someone who loves these older games, and we want to continue making more,” said Anpo. “As for which game we will remake in the future, that’s something we would like to announce later, so please look forward to it.”
Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the producer of Resident Evil 4 Remake, added, “We use the RE Engine for many of our titles. It’s true that sharing information between teams has significantly benefited the speed of development for Resident Evil and other titles, making it easier to develop more games.”
The Resident Evil Remakes series began with Resident Evil Remake on GameCube, which was well-received by fans and garnered a total of 6.3 million copies across all its releases. It was followed by the highly successful Resident Evil 2 Remake on newer generations of PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with sales exceeding 13 million copies. Shortly after, Resident Evil 3 Remake achieved 8 million copies in sales, and the latest installment, Resident Evil 4 Remake, has reached 5.4 million copies since its release this year (2023).
Given the success of the Remake series for Capcom, there is no doubt they would like to keep the momentum going. The question remains: will Code Veronica be the next release?
