Mega Man is BACK! At the game awards, Capcom is electrified fans of the classic 2D action-platformer genre with the grand reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override, which has been confirmed as the twelfth mainline entry in the storied Mega Man franchise. The Blue Bomber’s highly anticipated return is set for a 2027 launch, a year that also marks the series’ monumental 40th anniversary.

The new installment is slated for a broad release across both current and next-generation consoles, ensuring Mega Man fans on nearly every major platform can jump back into the robot-busting action. The platforms confirmed for the 2027 launch include PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 (the next-generation Nintendo console), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

In an exciting move that involves the community, Capcom has also announced a special Boss Design Contest for Mega Man: Dual Override. This month, fans will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the series’ mythology by helping Dr. Wily engineer a brand-new Robot Master that will be featured in the game. Details on submissions and eligibility can be found on the contest’s official website, which fans are encouraged to check out alongside the accompanying reveal trailer.

The 2027 release of Dual Override will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Mega Man franchise. Since its debut in 1987, the series has captivated players worldwide with its challenging and rewarding gameplay, iconic characters, and memorable soundtracks. This enduring appeal has translated into impressive commercial success, with the franchise boasting over 43 million units sold globally. Beyond video games, the Mega Man universe has successfully branched out into various media, including comics and television series, cementing its status as a pop culture icon.

To kick off the celebration of this major announcement, Capcom is offering fans a chance to revisit the last mainline entry. Mega Man 11 will soon receive a significant digital storefront discount, allowing players to purchase the critically acclaimed title for under $5 USD for a limited time. The sale will be available across the PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, Xbox Store, and Steam. Furthermore, Mega Man 11 is being updated tonight to include new localization options, specifically adding Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish to its language arsenal.
