Konami has announced that the hinted online component for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a new mode titled ‘Fox Hunt’, will launch this fall as a free post-launch update as the main game is set to release on August 28, 2025.
In a departure from the series’ previous “Metal Gear Online” iterations, ‘Fox Hunt’ is described as a “completely original” online multiplayer experience centered around the core tenets of stealth and survival that define the Metal Gear franchise. The gameplay is said to be a tense, “hide-and-seek based” battle, drawing inspiration from the popular “Sneaking Mission” modes of past online MGS experiences.
In this asymmetrical mode, one team of players will be tasked with using their camouflage and infiltration skills to reach a specific objective without being detected. The opposing team will be on the hunt, utilizing their observational abilities and weaponry to track down and neutralize the sneaking operatives.
Details revealed by Konami emphasize that ‘Fox Hunt’ will leverage the game’s advanced visuals and mechanics to create a deeply immersive and strategic multiplayer environment. The dynamic weather and dense jungle setting of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater are expected to play a crucial role in the gameplay, offering both opportunities for clever concealment and challenges for the hunting team.
But to not worry, the decision to release the online mode after the main game allows the development team to focus on delivering a polished single-player experience at launch, with a dedicated multiplayer component to follow. This staggered release strategy is not uncommon in the industry and can often result in a more robust and well-balanced online experience.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a faithful remake of the beloved 2004 PlayStation 2 classic, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 28, 2025.
