In their recent financial results for the 3rd Quarter of FY2023, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 4 Remake has accumulated 6.48 million copies as of December 31st, 2023, beating its other staggeringly popular Remake of Resident Evil 2, which sold 5.8 million copies throughout the same timeframe, crowning Resident Evil 4 Remake as the fastest-selling entry in the series.

Resident Evil has been surpassing its own records in the same timeframe since Resident Evil 7. Previous record-holders include Resident Evil Village at 5.7 million, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard managed 4.8 million. Resident Evil has evidently been following a unique trajectory of increasing fame.

Moreover, Capcom has shown a 33% increase in net sales, a 43% increase in operating income, and game sales rose from 29.1 million units to 32.6 million units YoY, indicating an impressive trend toward achieving 11 consecutive years of operating profit growth.

Capcom faced tough times in the past due to a lack of vision back in 2011-2013, but it has been reignited with the reinvention of their franchises, including Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Devil May Cry. This initiative opened the door for them to bring old franchises back into the limelight, such as Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, with plans to expand more in these franchises.
