Shift Up’s Stellar Blade, the PlayStation 5 exclusive, has achieved the highest user score on Metacritic with an emerald-green 9.2, coming from 3000 users. This number is also the highest user score of any video game released in 2024.
The action game has been met with a huge wave of controversy, ranging from an unintentional racist slur in one of its walls (which was patched on day one) to a loud minority of players starting a petition calling upon Shift Up to revert the main character’s outfits to what it was before the day one patch.
What these users have been calling “censorship” was merely a few inches of fabric changed by Shift Up themselves, without any negative media backlash, as the media has been giving positive reviews and no one aggressively call out the game for its sexual baiting and fanservice.
Unfortunately, the outcry of this minor demography is preventing people from seeing what the actual players are saying about the game. I have asked a few people around me about their experience, and many of the replies I got were from people who are having a great time with it, which makes the user score highly credible to me.
