Today, through their official Twitter account, Rockstar announced with a simple picture that the first trailer for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto will be released on December 5th.
In record timing, the tweet garnered a million likes and thousands of replies for such a simple picture, demonstrating the immense strength of the Grand Theft Auto brand.
The next Grand Theft Auto was confirmed by Rockstar in February 2022, and the development for the unnamed title was well underway. This was followed by reports from Bloomberg confirming the existence of Grand Theft Auto 6 and claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature the series’ first female protagonist, influenced by Bonnie and Clyde. Grand Theft Auto VI will also reportedly be set in a fictional version of Miami, which was previously visited by the series in GTA: Vice City.
GTA 6 has experienced a lot of trouble and leaks throughout its development cycle, with the biggest being a massive leak that happened last year, featuring about 90 videos of GTA 6 footage posted online. The female playable character could be seen in the leak robbing a restaurant. The gameplay was clearly from an alpha test, with placeholder text throughout, and the game engine in debug mode, detecting objects.
Announcing GTA 6 this week or otherwise will put these vicious cycles of rumors to rest, and it will allow fans to finally anticipate the game properly, hoping that Rockstar accompanies that announcement with a release date.
