Through a press release today, Nintendo announced that they are collaborating with Sony Pictures Entertainment to bring The Legend of Zelda to the silver screen with a live-action film.
The film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo, Avi Arad, Chairman of Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% of the financing provided by Nintendo. The theatrical distribution of the film will be handled worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc.
The Legend of Zelda Live-Action film will be Nintendo’s second attempt to make a big impact in the world of theater entertainment after the resounding success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was produced by Universal Studios, Illumination, and Nintendo. It was released back in April 2023 and has grossed 1.36 billion in the box office worldwide up until today.
