In a surprising tweet from Nintendo’s official Twitter account, Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo, announced that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be revealed to the public for the first time within this fiscal year, thus, the next nine months.

He also announced that a Nintendo Direct in June will feature the newest line-up for the current Nintendo Switch, but it will not include the reveal of the upcoming successor console or any details about its similarity to the Switch.

Nintendo’s announcement comes to stop a train of rumors about the successor to the Switch that took the space of the gaming news for the last two years, yet we really do not know what Nintendo has in mind. Especially since they are more secretive than other video gaming companies. When they revealed the Nintendo Switch back in 2015, it took everyone by storm, and the reveal trailer on YouTube garnered millions of views in a very short time.

This year, Nintendo celebrated the Switch being crowned the best-selling home console in Japan, stealing the crown from the PlayStation 2 with a staggering 33.34 million consoles sold in Japan alone and with an amazing total of 140 million consoles sold worldwide. It would be weird if Nintendo didn’t make a hybrid console that works the same way as the Switch. We are now only months away to know what this new device has in store for us, so all we got to do is wait.
