In the latest stream of Silent Hill Transmission, Konami has finally revealed the awaited new entry of Silent Hill entitled, Silent Hill f, in an eerie and very disturbing yet highly interesting trailer.

Konami is taking Silent Hill in a bold new direction with Silent Hill f where game will fully embrace Japanese horror, a deliberate shift after the series had leaned too heavily into Western influences. While Silent Hill has traditionally drawn from both Japanese and Western horror elements, the developers felt the franchise had strayed too far from its origins. As a result, Silent Hill f was designed as a “100% Japanese horror” experience, maintaining the series’ core themes of psychological torment, guilt, and inner conflict while relocating the story from its usual U.S. setting to Japan.

The game takes place in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, which draws inspiration from Kanayama in Gero, located in Gifu Prefecture. Writer Ryukishi07, known for his work in visual novels and horror storytelling, suggested Kanayama due to its “extremely unique townscape” that reflects the passage of time through its evolving structures and way of life. To ensure an authentic portrayal of its 1960s setting, the development team conducted on-site research, capturing the atmosphere and architecture of the region.

Silent Hill has long been known for its harrowing portrayals of suffering, particularly among its female characters. However, Silent Hill f aims to subvert this trope with its protagonist, Hinako Shimizu. According to Ryukishi07, Hinako is a character who actively makes her own choices, rather than being passively swept along by the horrors around her.

Visually, Silent Hill f sets itself apart from previous entries in the series. Rather than relying on the familiar imagery of bloodstained, rusted environments, the team sought to craft a haunting yet distinct aesthetic. One of the greatest challenges for the team was designing the game’s monsters—creatures intended to deeply unsettle players by merging Ryukishi07’s psychological horror sensibilities with their own unique visual style. The result is a fresh yet unmistakably Silent Hill experience that aims to burrow into the minds of players long after they put down the controller.

Silent Hill f doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is available to be wishlisted on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam.
