Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles has surpassed one million units in total worldwide shipments and digital sales as of December 31, 2025.
Reaching this milestone just three months after its launch on September 30, 2025, represents a massive resurgence for the beloved strategy franchise, a success speed that has stunned even its original creator.
While the sales figures are a cause for celebration at Square Enix, they came as a genuine shock to Yasumi Matsuno, the legendary game designer and writer behind the world of Ivalice.
Matsuno reportedly admitted via twitter that while he had hopes for the title’s success, his internal projections were much more conservative. He revealed that he did not expect the game to move one million units until the very end of its lifespan. Instead, the title managed to clear that hurdle in a mere three months, proving that the appetite for deep, political tactical RPGs is stronger than ever.
The sales figures validate the critical reception the game has received since launch. The commercial success follows a prestigious victory at last month’s The Game Awards, where Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles took home the trophy for Best Sim/Strategy Game, cementing its status as the genre leader for the new generation of hardware.
Following the announcement, Producer Kazutoyo Maehiro issued a statement expressing gratitude to the fanbase and hinting that this success guarantees further support for the title.
“The entire development team is incredibly grateful to you all, and we are taking this positive reception as motivation to continue considering future updates to make the game even more enjoyable and accessible to an even wider audience.”
Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is available now on a wide array of platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam)
