Hold Your Fire, Detective: MOUSE: P.I. For Hire Pushed to April

The vintage 1930s cartoon aesthetic of MOUSE: P.I. For Hire has had the industry’s attention since its initial reveal. But if you were planning to hit the monochrome streets of Mouseburg next month, you’re going to have to keep your trench coat on the rack just a little bit longer.

Developer Fumi Games and publisher PlaySide Studios have officially announced that their highly anticipated rubber-hose boomer shooter is being delayed. Originally slated for a March 19 release, the game will now launch on April 16, 2026, across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch (including Switch 2).

In a statement shared across social media this morning, Fumi Games made it clear that this isn’t a sign of developmental hell, but rather a final, crucial layer of polish to ensure the game hits its mark.

“As we approach the final stages of development, we want to ensure we are taking the extra time and care needed to make MOUSE: P.I. For Hire an experience to remember. We remain unwavering in our goal to deliver you the best game we can, and that will take just an extra few weeks.”

Honestly? This is exactly the kind of delay you want to see. We’ve watched too many ambitious titles stumble at the finish line because they rushed to meet an arbitrary fiscal quarter deadline. MOUSE isn’t just relying on its stunning visual gimmick—it’s blending fast-paced, Doom-style combat with 2.5D investigative mechanics, puzzle-solving, and Metroidvania traversal. Throw in the heavy-hitting voice talent of Troy Baker as the hardboiled protagonist, Jack Pepper, and you have a recipe that absolutely deserves the extra time in the oven.

From a purely strategic perspective, this four-week bump is also incredibly smart positioning. March is historically a crowded, chaotic bloodbath for game releases. By shifting to mid-April, Fumi Games gives MOUSE: P.I. For Hire a much wider runway to breathe and dominate the conversation. When you have an indie game that looks this visually distinct, you want all eyes on it when it finally drops.

While the extra wait might sting for fans eager to dive in, the studio has promised that new updates and gameplay reveals are coming soon to keep the hype train rolling.

Save your spinach power-ups and keep your Tommy guns loaded. Jack Pepper’s biggest case is still coming; it just needs a few more weeks to make sure the evidence is airtight.
