The legend is growing. During the Fan Festival 2026 in Anaheim, Director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida officially confirmed that the award-winning Shadowbringers expansion is now part of the Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial.
If you’ve been living under a rock (or just avoiding the memes), here is why this is a massive deal for the gaming community:
Starting with the release of Patch 7.5, the free trial has been expanded to include:
The Full Shadowbringers Experience: Play through the entire 5.0 main story and all patches up to 5.58.
Level Cap Increase: The free trial level cap has officially jumped from 70 to 80.
New Jobs: You can now unlock and play as the Gunbreaker (Tank) and Dancer (Physical Ranged DPS) without spending a dime.
New Races: Access to the Hrothgar and Viera is now open to trial players.
Shadowbringers is widely considered by fans and critics alike to be the absolute peak of Final Fantasy storytelling. By adding this to the trial, Square Enix is essentially giving away a 40-50 hour high-budget RPG experience for free. This brings the total “free” content to:
A Realm Reborn (The Base Game)
Heavensward (1st Expansion)
Stormblood (2nd Expansion)
Shadowbringers (3rd Expansion)
This move comes as Square Enix prepares for the next era of the MMO. With the recently announced Evercold expansion slated for January 2027 and a Nintendo Switch 2 port arriving this August, the team is clearly looking to hook as many new “Warriors of Light” as possible before the level cap hits 110.
