Cygames has officially announced that its flagship title, Granblue Fantasy, will launch on Steam in the West on March 10, 2026. This date carries significant symbolic weight, as it marks the exactly 12th anniversary of the game’s original Japanese debut in 2014. For the first time, Western players will have a localized, storefront-supported version of the legendary RPG without having to navigate the browser-based workarounds that have been the norm for over a decade.
The Steam version is being positioned as a standalone entry specifically for the international market. Because it operates on a separate infrastructure, existing accounts from the mobile and browser versions cannot be linked. This means both veterans and newcomers will start from scratch on a level playing field. Additionally, this version will be geoblocked in Japan and select other regions to maintain the distinction between the original live service and this new Steam release.
Granblue Fantasy is nothing short of a cultural phenomenon in Japan. Since its 2014 launch, the series has grown from a mobile gacha title into a multi-billion-dollar multimedia empire. It famously features art by Hideo Minaba and a musical score by legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and Tsutomu Narita.
The franchise has been incredibly successful, generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue and expanding into successful anime adaptations, manga, and even large-scale “Granblue Fes” events. Despite its massive footprint in Asia, the original game remained a niche title in the West, known mostly to hardcore JRPG enthusiasts who were willing to import accounts and use English language patches.
The path to this official Steam release was paved by the surprise success of the series’ console spin-offs. Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which launched in February 2024, shattered expectations by selling over one million copies in its first 11 days and reaching two million units by 2025.
